The president Dilma Rousseff announced this Tuesday that Ana de Hollanda no longer is the Minister of Culture in Brazil. The hard task of dealing who such affairs – including the reform of the Copyright Act – now pertains to Marta Suplicy, which is a former mayor of São Paulo.
This change was not unexpected since Ana de Hollanda had been suffering political pressures from different sectors for a long time, but, in year of elections, this change may reflect a political decision of our president.
The problem is that, while our government has been changing the names of its Ministers, the new Copyright Act is still awaiting for approval.
During the last years, the copyright bill has only moved from the Ministry of Culture to the Ministry of Civil Affairs and, if sending the bill to congress was already uncertain, now the situation is even more “nebulous”.
Let’s wait and see how the subject will evolve in the following months.
